Why I predominantly paint with Acrylics

So I have tried a variety of mediums. I did watercolor for a while, and I still use it from time to time. I tried colored pencils, crayons (who hasn’t), watercolor pencils, chalk pastels, oil pastels, and oil paints. All of these have their pros and cons and can be used to create a masterpiece in the hands of the right person.

So why have I stuck with acrylics like many artists these days? Simple, they are easy to use. You mess something up? Cover it up and try again. You don’t need any fancy mediums to thin down acrylics, water works just fine.

I painted this using Master’s Touch Acrylic Paints, and Liquitex Basics Paints.

But acrylics dry so fast, you can’t blend with them: Easy fix, just use an acrylic retarder; basically a medium that slows down the drying time.

Acrylics look chalky, and you can’t glaze with them: Just mix in a gloss medium, or glazing medium, widely available at craft stores like Michael’s .

After all this being said, not all acrylics are created equal as it goes for other mediums. Golden acrylics is the holy grail of acrylic paints in my humble opinion.
